The Centre

The Centre is closely associated with a prime exhibition space, THE MAUD STREET PHOTO GALLERY which provides an exhibition support to The Centre, as well as holding stand alone photographic exhibitions.

The facilities that The Centre offers include a black & white darkroom for film processing and printing, from 35mm to large format, photographic books library resource including technical, pictorial, biographies and art books, the retail store holds a stock of darkroom chemicals, papers, films and accessories. 35mm film cameras are available for the members use. The Centre is available as a venue for hire, accommodating functions for up to 120 people. The venue’s built-in bar includes glassware, tables & chairs.  55″ HD TV screen and Multimedia projector are also available for hire.

A highly respected group of professional photographers are at the core of The Centre, supporting the photographic industry by sharing their broad knowledge in practical ways and educational activities and offering their expertise and valuable knowledge in the varied facets of the art and business of photography, Their services include curatorial advice and mentoring in all aspects of the photographic business activities.

The Center’s educational program offers workshops, seminars, masterclasses and forums in digital and film photography. Photographers are welcome to use The Centre’s facility for hi-res scanning of negatives, transparencies and slides and large format digital printing (up to 44″ size).

Importantly, The Centre is also a social hub for like-minded people to interact and facilitate their own artistic and photographic goals. The Center’s BOKEH BAR is open most Friday afternoons to relax, unwind and enjoy a cold ale or two. All activities and programs are facilitated by volunteers and friends of The Centre. Whether you are a film buff or wanting to improve your camera skills, or just want to meet other photographers, The Center will make you welcome.

THE MAUD STREET PHOTO GALLERY is a dedicated photographic gallery in Brisbane, Newstead, close to the Brisbane CBD and ‘the Valley’ area. It is closely associated with QUEENSLAND CENTRE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, (The Centre), which specializes in providing photographic facilities and education to the photographic community.

 Small photographic books resource library is available whilst visiting The Centre. Technical, pictorial, biographies and other reference books are available. Over 300 books available. The library is constantly evolving with new titles being added frequently.

Enjoy a cup of coffee on us whilst you are visiting our library.
