Darkroom Techniques and Analogue Photography

These personalised workshops introduce you to the fascinating world of analogue photography. We offer an initial first session at a special price that will introduce you to the magic world of a wet darkroom and establish your skill levels. Should you wish to continue we provide ongoing further workshops for one or two people that are tailored specifically towards your specific skill levels and interests. Dates and content for these workshops are finalised after individual consultation and cover beginners and advanced levels for b/w film processing, b/w analogue printing, using a film camera, photograms and more.

One Participant (3 hours):

Basic Techniques in Photography

Suitable for beginners this step by step workshop takes you through the use of advanced digital cameras, covering basic photographic techniques and image composition. Topics introduced will include focus, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure, depth of field and white balance. Tips on image composition will discuss framing, cropping, the rule of thirds, and separation of foreground and background. It includes practical activities and a review of images taken during the workshop. (Up to 8 participants, minimum 4)

Traditional nature photography focusses on remote places and unspoiled settings, however nature is all around us – also in the city. Join acclaimed Australian photographer Joachim Froese, an expert on this subject matter, for an alternative approach towards photographing nature. Exploring the urban environment as a place that harbours a diverse range of plants and animals will change your perspective on life in the city and broaden your ideas about photography. We will discuss the use of different lenses, explore landscape and macro views to discover large and small worlds. A street is a place full of life, activity, and drama. Follow internationally renowned photographer Shehab Uddin in an exploration of Brisbane’s subtropical street life. Designed to build your skill and confidence as a street photographer this workshop will introduce topics such as the selection of locations, subject matter, and equipment, camera techniques, as well as approaching strangers to gather their trust. We will talk about ideas, lenses, focus, and other tips & tricks of street photography that will improve your images. Cyanotype

The cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes. Explore this exciting camera-less activity with renowned Brisbane artist Renata Buziak, as a first introduction to the exciting world of alternative processes. Placing plants and found objects on specially prepared cyanotype paper, we will use sunlight and water, to create a bright blue image. You will prepare your own light-sensitive paper and expose and process your print. Participants can bring small, flat objects to create their images, all other materials will be provided. During the workshop, all participants will receive individual feedback on the images they create. (Up to 8 participants, minimum 4)
