The core purpose of the Mentoring Program is to facilitate young, and perhaps not so young photographers to find their feet in a daunting industry.
The challenges have changed little over the past 50 years.
It is still a matter of pricing, self-confidence and commitment. These are some of the core topics of the program. It is worth noting that we do not deal with photography, but with the business of photography, so don’t expect lighting courses, even if we might make healthy comments on your folio.
We are not offering a course, but a program. We are not delivering a set of syllabus as an educational institution would. The difference is to be well understood. We will follow a timeline with set tasks. How these tasks are handled depends greatly on the dynamics of the group and your willingness to engage.
A large part of mentoring is the art of listening and our mentors are good at it. We have chosen mentors/ photographers, who have run successful businesses for a long time, and who have a deep commitment to sharing their knowledge for the benefit of the industry.
They may offer advice and shortcuts, but your personal success will always depend on your commitment and your ability to solve issues. Mentoring will also show the value of networking and interacting within your group.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE PROGRAM

The program begins with your registration, as we will be asking you to apply just as you would, for a job as a photographer. Your resume will need to be comprehensive and highly personalised.

The cost of the complete course is $1500 (+GST) per student. The program will start in February 2021 and runs over 10 months, with a 3 hour meeting once a month, for a total of 30 hours, plus a two hour one-on-one session. The group is limited to a maximum of 8 participants and will run with a minimum of 6 participants.

There will be a set of resources and a timeline set out, for the duration of the 10 month program. The timeline is scheduled in a way that you will have time to work on and prepare your answers for the next meeting.
The mentors are chosen to suit the common interests of the group. They come from all genres of the photographic industry and have been in business for many years.
Eric Victor is the current program director. Eric ran Momentum Studio for over 40 years, in the competitive area of advertising and commercial photography. Eric’s second company, PhotoPro, imported Broncolour lighting equipment to Australia for many years. He has been involved with the photographic industry at the highest level culminating as National President and Chairman of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). He was the National Director of their mentoring program until 2018 and supervised the involvement of some 460 participants over the 7 years that the program ran.
