My choice of subject comes from my interest in ideas about beauty, life and a reflection on mortality.
After a fifteen year career as an advertising photographer wherein perfection, flawlessness and desirability are the holy-grail, I continue to seek out the inherent beauty in subject matter that has long passed its use-by date.
These parsnips were pulled from my own garden and never reached the nirvana of the advertiser’s expectations. These ‘Memento mori’ were grown in a medium lacking the right combination of nutrients and soil friability and have forked into misshapen roots, taking on the persona of demonic life forms, sea creatures and humanistic body parts.
