Twenty Carat Love

‘Twenty Carat Love’ is a subset of a much larger body of work titled ‘Legumes Morts’ – literally dead vegetables. It is an ongoing project making still life images of vegetable and plant matter, sourced mainly from my garden. In most cases these subjects are in a state of decay and the project explores the beauty of line, shape, form and colour as it regresses from its pristine state. Last year’s crop of carrots failed due to lack of water. They were allowed to go to seed, then pulled and left on the ground for some months. The dried seed stalks were brought into the studio where the images were made with a flatbed scanner rather than a camera. Twenty Carat Love pays reference to the Art Nouveau movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries
